Quick answer: Facebook Marketplace is Facebook’s free buy-and-sell board for people 18 and older. Open it from the shop icon in the Facebook app (or Marketplace in the left menu on facebook.com). To buy, tap a listing and then Message. To sell, tap Sell, add photos, a price and details, then tap Publish. Local sales are free.
This guide covers buying, selling, finding the items you’ve sold or bought, what “hidden information” really means, and how to fix No listings found. Every step has a phone and a computer version.

How do I open Facebook Marketplace?
In the Facebook app, tap the shop icon on the tab bar. On a computer, click Marketplace in the left menu or go to facebook.com/marketplace. Marketplace only works on your main Facebook profile, not on an extra profile or a Page.
Don’t see the shop icon? Tap Menu (your profile picture or the three lines), then Marketplace. If it’s still missing, tap See more. Marketplace is open to people 18 and older in supported countries, which Facebook lists on its Marketplace learn-more page.
How do I buy on Facebook Marketplace?
Find a listing, message the seller through Messenger, then agree on price and pickup or shipping. You don’t need to share your phone number or email.
- Open Marketplace and browse, or type what you want in the search bar.
- Tap Filters to narrow by price, condition, category, date listed and distance.
- Tap a listing to see the photos, description, seller’s name and ratings.
- Tap Message, or Send to ask “Is this available?”.
- Agree on the price and pickup, or shipping where the listing offers it.
- Tap the bookmark to Save a listing you want to come back to.
Meeting in person? Pick a busy public place (many police stations offer a safe exchange spot), go in daylight, and tell someone where you’re going.
How do I sell on Facebook Marketplace?
Tap Sell in Marketplace, add photos, a title, a price and a description, then tap Publish. Your listing becomes public on Marketplace, in search and in any buy and sell groups you add it to.
Phone app
- Open Marketplace and tap Sell.
- Choose what you’re selling, for example Items.
- Tap Add photos and pick or take photos.
- Add a title, price, category, condition and description. Enter 0 as the price to give something away free.
- Tap Next. If it’s greyed out, a required field is still empty.
- Optionally add the listing to buy and sell groups.
- Tap Publish.
Computer
- Click Marketplace in the left menu.
- Click Create new listing, then Item for sale.
- Click Add photos and fill in the details.
- Click Next, then Publish.
Everything you list must follow Facebook’s Commerce Policies. Check similar listings to price fairly, and add “OBO” (or best offer) if you’re open to haggling.
Selling a lot in the US? On July 24, 2026 Meta launched a separate Seller app for Marketplace sellers. It’s on iPhone only, for US sellers 18 and older, and puts your listings, buyer messages and sales stats in one place, with an AI tool that drafts a listing from a photo. Android and web versions are in testing. As of October 2026 · Sources: 9to5Mac, Tech Times.
Is Facebook Marketplace free?
Yes for local sales. Browsing, messaging, listing and selling for local pickup cost nothing. In the US, items sold with shipping through Facebook’s checkout carry a 10% selling fee, with a $0.80 minimum per order.
| How the item sells (US) | Fee to the seller |
|---|---|
| Local pickup or drop-off, paid in person | $0 |
| Shipped through Facebook checkout | 10% of the total the buyer pays (item + shipping + tax), minimum $0.80 |
Example: a buyer pays $50 for an item plus $8 shipping. The fee is 10% of $58, so $5.80.
How do I see items I sold on Facebook Marketplace?
Open your seller area, go to Your listings, and filter by Sold. Sold listings stay there even after buyers can no longer see them.
Phone app
- Open Marketplace and tap your seller area. Depending on your app it’s labeled Selling, Your listings or You, or shown as a person icon.
- Open Your listings.
- Choose Sold in the status filter or tabs. Some accounts show Sold and out of stock.
Computer
- Go to Marketplace, then Selling in the left panel.
- Click Your listings.
- Open the status filter (it usually shows Available & in stock) and choose Sold and out of stock.
Haven’t marked something as sold yet? Open the listing and tap Mark as sold. It moves into the sold list and stops getting messages.
Can I see what other people sold on Marketplace?
Sometimes. Search for the item, tap Filters, and look for Availability set to Sold. This filter doesn’t appear on every account or category, and it only shows recent listings, but it’s handy for checking what similar items actually sold for.
How do I see what I bought on Facebook Marketplace?
Open Marketplace, go to your own area (You or the person icon on the phone, the left panel on a computer), then Buying or Your purchases. Only items you paid for through Facebook checkout appear there. For deals you arranged in Messenger and paid in cash, check your Marketplace messages instead.
Can you see hidden information on Facebook Marketplace?
Mostly no, and that’s on purpose. Facebook hides a seller’s exact address, phone number and email to keep both sides safe. What you can see is the seller’s public Marketplace profile.
- Exact location: listings show an approximate area. You agree on a meeting place in chat.
- Phone number and email: not shown. You talk through Messenger until the seller chooses to share more.
- What you can check: tap the seller’s name on a listing to see their ratings, other listings and how long they’ve been on Facebook. That’s the best way to judge whether a seller is legit.
Skip any website, extension or “trick” that claims to reveal a seller’s private details; those are unreliable and often scams themselves. Hid a listing or a seller by accident? Facebook doesn’t offer a clear list of hidden sellers to undo, so search for the item again, or message the seller from an old chat if you have one.
Why does Facebook Marketplace say “No listings found”?
Usually something on your side narrows the results to zero: tight filters, the wrong location, a VPN, or an outdated app. Less often, your account isn’t eligible for Marketplace. Work through the table from the top.
| Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|
| Filters too narrow (price cap, category, “listed today”) | Reset Filters and search again |
| Wrong location or small radius | Tap the location at the top of Marketplace, set where you are, widen the distance |
| Search too specific | Use one or two plain words instead of a long phrase or model number |
| VPN on | Turn it off; it can place you somewhere Marketplace isn’t offered |
| App glitch | Update Facebook; on Android, clear the app’s cache or reinstall |
| Only broken on one device | Try facebook.com; if that works, it’s the app, not your account |
| Account not eligible | You must be 18+, in a supported country, on your main profile. New accounts or Commerce Policy breaks can lose access (“Marketplace isn’t available to you”) |
Still stuck? In the app go to Menu → Help & support → Report a problem and describe what’s happening.
How do I avoid scams on Facebook Marketplace?
Stop the deal if a buyer or seller asks for a verification code, wants you to “upgrade” your Zelle or payment app, sends a payment screenshot or link instead of real money, or asks for a deposit before you’ve seen the item.
- Fake Zelle “business upgrade”: a fake email says the buyer paid and you must upgrade your account to receive it. No money was sent. Check payments only inside your bank or payment app.
- Verification codes: a code texted to you is how someone takes over your accounts. Never share it.
- Overpayment and reversed payments: buyers who “accidentally” overpay and ask for the difference back, or pay with stolen cards that later reverse.
